Who is responsible for your data
Feathy is developed by QIN Qin, an independent developer based in France, European Union. For personal data the developer actually receives — for example, if you write to us by email — QIN Qin is the data controller under applicable data-protection law.
The developer does not receive and cannot access the photos, videos, photo-library analysis or local face representations that Feathy processes on your iPhone.
- Contact: hello.feathy@outlook.com
- Developer identity: the developer’s trader identity and contact details will be shown on Feathy’s App Store listing as required.
We have not appointed a Data Protection Officer, and are not required to, because Feathy does not carry out large-scale or high-risk processing of personal data.
Access to your photo library
Feathy asks for access to your photo library so it can provide its features. Depending on what you use, it may read: your photos and videos; file sizes and media types; creation dates; photo-library metadata that Apple makes available; the visual characteristics needed to spot similar or blurry photos; and location or other photo metadata where a feature needs it — for example setting photos aside by place.
This information is processed on your device. Feathy does not upload your photo library to a Feathy server. You can change or withdraw the permission at any time in iOS Settings.
Clean Up
Clean Up analyses your library on the device to find duplicates, similar photos, blurry photos, screenshots, large videos, Live Photos and other storage-heavy media. The analysis happens on your iPhone; the developer receives neither the photos nor the results.
Anything that changes your library goes through Apple’s Photos framework and stays subject to the permissions iOS provides. When an original is removed, Apple Photos normally places it in Recently Deleted, where Apple keeps it for a limited period before permanent deletion.
Relive
Relive surfaces one photo from the same date in earlier years, using information already in your photo library. The matching happens on your iPhone. Feathy does not send your memories, their dates, your photos or your use of Relive to the developer.
Tuck Away
Tuck Away helps you gather photos you want to keep without meeting them in your everyday library. Depending on the option you choose, Feathy narrows by a person, a date range or a place, using photo metadata and on-device visual analysis.
Photos you tuck away are moved into Apple Photos’ Hidden album. On supported versions of iOS that album is locked by default and can require Face ID, Touch ID or the device passcode; Apple lets you change those settings.
Tucked-away photos are hidden, not deleted. Depending on the version of iOS and what Apple allows third-party apps to do, restoring them to normal view may have to be done in Apple Photos.
On-device face matching
Tuck Away includes an optional feature that finds photos of a particular person. Feathy uses Apple’s on-device Vision technologies to detect faces, then a face-matching model bundled inside the app — AuraFace‑v1, used under the Apache 2.0 licence — to tell them apart. Both run on your iPhone. Feathy sends neither photographs nor face representations to the model’s provider or to the developer.
Local face representations. To distinguish faces, the feature creates mathematical representations of facial characteristics on your device. Depending on how such information is used and on applicable law, facial representations may constitute sensitive or biometric data. For that reason:
- the feature is optional, and Feathy asks you to turn it on separately;
- the representations stay on your device and are excluded from backups;
- they are never uploaded to Feathy;
- they are never used for advertising or tracking;
- they are used only to provide face matching inside your own library;
- turning the feature off deletes them from memory and from disk;
- removing the app removes Feathy’s local data.
Feathy does not try to establish the real-world identity of anyone in your photos.
iCloud photos
If you use iCloud Photos with Optimise iPhone Storage, some full-resolution photos may not be stored on your iPhone. When a feature needs one, Apple’s PhotoKit can ask iCloud to make it available on your device. That transfer is handled by Apple between your own iCloud library and your own device. It is not an upload to Feathy, and Feathy operates no intermediary server.
Where Feathy restricts such downloads to Wi‑Fi, the purpose is to avoid spending your mobile data without warning.
What Feathy does not collect
Feathy contains no account system, no advertising SDK, no tracking SDK, no third-party analytics SDK, no photo-upload service, no server that stores your library, and no way to build an advertising profile from your photos.
Feathy transmits none of your photos, videos, face representations, search results or library analysis to the developer. Under Apple’s App Store privacy definitions, information processed only on the device and never sent off it is not considered “collected”, which is why Feathy’s App Store privacy disclosure is Data Not Collected.
Apple services and analytics
Feathy includes no analytics SDK and sends no usage data to any Feathy analytics service. Apple may separately collect and process information about the App Store, purchases, crashes, device diagnostics or app usage, according to your Apple settings and Apple’s own privacy practices. Those services are operated by Apple, not by Feathy, and Apple states that developers are not responsible for declaring data Apple itself collects.
No advertising, tracking, sale or sharing
Feathy carries no advertising, does not track you across apps or websites, does not sell your personal information, and shares nothing from your photo library with data brokers, ad networks or analytics providers. The bundled face model requires no photo or face representation to be sent to its provider.
The legal bases we rely on
Under the GDPR, the developer relies on:
- Your consent for the optional on-device face-matching feature, which you enable yourself and can withdraw at any time by turning it off — withdrawal deletes the local face representations.
- Performance of a contract, in that Feathy provides the functionality you installed it for, on your device.
- Legitimate interest in replying to people who write to us, and compliance with a legal obligation where one applies.
Photo-library processing happens on your own device and the developer receives none of it.
Purchases
Feathy Pro is a one-time in-app purchase, processed by Apple’s App Store. Feathy never receives your card number. Apple tells the app only whether you are entitled to the purchased functionality. Purchase information is not used to build an advertising or behavioural profile. Family Sharing is available where Apple supports it. Apple processes purchase information under Apple’s own privacy terms.
If you contact us
If you email us we receive what you choose to send: your email address, your name if you give it, the content of your message and any files you attach. We use it only to answer you, provide support, handle a legal request or investigate a problem you report.
We do not ask you to send your private photos for ordinary support. Please avoid sending sensitive material unless it is genuinely necessary. Correspondence is kept only as long as reasonably necessary for the request and any related legal or operational requirement.
Storage and retention
Feathy keeps no server-side copy of your photo library or of any analysis of it. What the app stores locally stays on your device: your photos remain in Apple Photos until you change or delete them; local app data remains until the feature, iOS or you remove it; local face representations are deleted when face matching is turned off or when Feathy’s local data is removed. Support emails are kept only as described above.
International data transfers
Your photo library and Feathy’s analysis of it are never transferred by Feathy to a server the developer operates, so Feathy performs no international transfer of that information. Separate services do their own processing: Apple handles App Store, iCloud, purchase and device information under Apple’s privacy terms, and if you email us your message passes through your email provider and ours. Those providers may process information in other countries under their own policies and safeguards.
Your choices and controls
- Change or withdraw Feathy’s photo-library access in iOS Settings.
- Choose what Feathy is allowed to change or remove.
- Turn optional face matching off, which deletes the local face representations.
- Delete Feathy’s local data by removing the app.
- Manage hidden photos in Apple Photos.
- Recover eligible items from Recently Deleted while Apple keeps them there.
Your rights
In the European Union and European Economic Area you may have rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, objection and portability, the right to withdraw consent where processing relies on it, and the right to complain to a supervisory authority.
For photo-library data processed only on your device, the developer holds no server-side copy to provide, correct or erase — you manage it directly through Feathy, Apple Photos and iOS settings. If you have written to us, you can contact us to exercise your rights over the personal data in that correspondence.
Your right to complain
If you believe your personal data has been handled unlawfully you may complain to a data-protection authority. The developer is based in France, so ours is the CNIL:
Commission Nationale de l’Informatique et des Libertés (CNIL)
3 Place de Fontenoy, TSA 80715
75334 Paris Cedex 07, France
You may also contact the authority in the EU or EEA country where you live, work, or believe an infringement took place. You are welcome to write to us first at hello.feathy@outlook.com.
California privacy rights (CCPA/CPRA)
Feathy does not sell personal information and does not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising. It operates no advertising or tracking system. Because the developer never receives your photo library or its analysis, there is no server-side copy to disclose, correct or delete. Information you send us directly may be subject to applicable rights. We will not treat you differently for exercising one.
Children
Feathy is a general-audience photo app and is not directed at children. It runs no account system, advertising, tracking or photo upload, and analysis stays on the device. If a child writes to us and we learn the correspondence should not be kept, write to hello.feathy@outlook.com.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy if Feathy’s functionality, technical architecture, legal requirements or privacy practices change. The current version is always published here with the date of its last update. If a future feature ever began transmitting or collecting data in a materially different way, this policy and the App Store privacy disclosures would be updated accordingly.
